Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA)
VPE and it's staff were involved in MARTA's CQ 310 and 311 new vihicle procurements and later overhaul programs of the same fleet. VPE’s responsibilities included drawing/documentation reviews, test plan reviews, test monitoring, and resident inspections. VPE staff attended meetings with the customer and supplier as well as inspected work quality, writing and assisting in daily and weekly inspection reports. VPE staff managed retrofit and open items program, and vehicle dynamic testing for the overhaul program. VPE also supported a project to replace the propulsion system electronic controls with a microprocessor-based “XVI” system. VPE staff had total engineering responsibility for the propulsion and auxiliary power systems including updating component specifications and vendors; identifying and designing replacements for obsolete components and subsystems; writing test procedures and maintenance manual updates. VPE also coordinated work activities between the fabrication inspectors and final assembly staff. VPE also reviewed test plans and procedures, witnessed various qualification/function tests.
Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA):
Engineering Services in Support of the Blue Line Rapid Transit Cars. VPE provided assistance in the structural evaluations and clearance study during earlier project phase. VPE also provided resident QA/QC inspections at the builder's facility in Austria. The No. 5 car is the latest iteration of technically advanced heavy rail cars used by the MBTA. Through the use of IGBT and microprocessor based technology, the No. 5 car incorporates modern performance and diagnostic systems to enhance Blue Line operations.
Engineering Services in Support of the Procurement of 75 New Bi-Level Commuter Cars. VPE was involved in the reviews of design and drawing submittals of all electrical systems and car wiring. On behalf of the MBTA, we also provided assistance to the contractor and subcontractors to ensure that the components and materials that will be delivered are specification compliant and compatible with the MBTA's existing bi-level cars where feasible. VPE also provided testing support in Philadelphia at the builder's site. Currently, VPE is involved in review of the contractor's documents.
Engineering Services for the Mid-Life Overhaul of 75 Bi-Level Coaches. VPE provided assistance in the overhaul specification development and liaison between field and office personnel. Our staff is also providing on site inspection services to help determine the scope of work necessary to repair and upgrade existing bi-level coaches for continued service. We are also providing testing support at the builder's facility.
Engineering Services in Support of Orange Line and Red Line Vehicles Procurement Program. VPE provided assistance in the new car specification development in the initial phase. During contractor's selection process, VPE made visits to the bidder's facilities in China on behalf of the MBTA.
Engineering Services in Support of Low-Floor Cars for the Green Line (#8 Green Line Low Floor LRV). VPE provided QA/QC inspections at the builder's final assembly site.
Long Island Rail Road (LIRR) and Metro North Rail Road (MNR):
Rolling Stock Professional Services, M-7 EMU Commuter cars (LIRR and MNR). VPE provided specification development support in the initial phase. During construction phase, we provided car fabrication QA/QC in Canada and final assembly inspections at the builder's facility. VPE provided car repair inspections. VPE also provided M-7 car modification inspections on MNR cars and interface between the buider and the rail road. This effort included reviewes and verifications of engineering issues, train testing, software revisions, manufacturing progress reports, car history books, NDT inspections, document control and other functions necessary for successful completion of the project.
Rolling Stock Consultant Services, New locomotives (LIRR): VPE provided resident QA/QC inspections at the builder's facility.
GEC Services Contract - Rolling Stock, New C-3 Bi-Level Commuter Cars (LIRR). VPE provided QA/QC inspections at Kawasaki's Kobe facility.
Maryland Transit Administration
VPE is currently involved in Heavy Rail, Commuter rail, and Light rail vehicles under contract no. MTA-1345. VPE is involved in MARC IV final assembly and testing at builder's facilty in NY state. Concurrently, we are also performing resident inspection services on mid-life LRV overhaul program, development of HRV specification and minor overhaul procuremrnt of MARC III commuter cars.
On MTA-1193 contract VPE provided Locomotive and railcar systems engineering, OEM/vendor coordination, development of equipment enhancements, upgrade locomotive and railcar fleet, oversight support for MARC commuter buses, new small and medium duty bus procurement, Heavy rail car fleet and signaling logistic support.
